One of the last fruits of the year is the Medlar. It is an unusual fruit and one that you certainly won’t see in the supermarkets or shops. After picking from the tree they need time to sit in trays as they ripen and transform from being rock-hard lumps… into a delicious soft fruit resembling spiced cooked apple.
It may look bruised and rotten but this one is perfect!
Come along on a Thursday or Sunday to try one. Be quick – they won’t last long!
